If no-one is looking at a planet right now, does it really count as a planet?

I've never looked directly at the sun so I have no proof it actually exists.

Based on observations conducted during a university lecture that happened to coincide with a partial eclipse I can confirm that the Sun does in fact exist, is further from Earth than the Moon and that the TA was not amused by the distraction.
