Title text: The Earth is, on average, located in the habitable zone, but at any given time it has a certain probability of being outside it, which is why life exists on Earth but is mortal.

The position of the Sun relative to the Earth is unknown until you stare directly at it.

But then you'll go blind and the Sun's position remains unknown, so it's not worth it.

I tend to favor the view that the solar system contains many planetary or dwarf-planetary bodies distributed in a random but more or less statistically-uniform manner throughout a pudding.
