Title text: Update: The physics department has recruited an astronomer who studies meteor fireballs.
I'm equally incompetent at spheres of any size.

I would imagine particle physicists have more experience with throwing the subject of their research at things than planetary scientists

Planetary physicists at least understand how gravity affects the physics of an object moving through space
