Darkest Dungeon 2 is a Dayless Mafia setup. This setup will focus heavily on deduction and night play. Players will have a very limited ability to interact with each other, so must use the resources that they have at their disposal efficiently to figure out who their allies and enemies are. This setup is aimed to be relatively low impact in terms of time-commitment to players.
The flavour is inspired by Darkest Dungeon 2. Flavour knowledge is generally not required, but knowing the characters and basic premise could be somewhat helpful.
This setup is experimental. I will do my best to ensure a fun and enjoyable, but I can't guarantee balance.
Feel free to ask any questions about the setup or the rules so I can clarify anything that doesn't make sense.
Rules
General Rules

• Do not post in the main thread for any reason unless the mod has specifically said you are allowed to.
• You are not allowed to quote your role PM or send any images, metadata, or any other information pertaining to your role PM.
• Players must be aware of their role and play to their wincon
• Players may not use ChatGPT or other LLM to craft their messages.
• Players are not allowed to use encryption or similar systems
Private Channels

• Communication via mod, including questions related to the setup or roles, must be done through your private channel.
• Players should indicate Messages and Actions that they wish to send/perform in their private channel. Please do not attempt to send messages directly to other players.
• Some players will have access to temporary or permanent private chat with each other. These chats may be open during the exploration phase, the campfire phase, or both, depending on the ability. Private chats do not count toward your wordcount.
Phases

• Each player will have 3 action points that they can use to take actions.
• Some actions can only be used during the exploration phase; others can only be used during campfire. Generally, exploration actions will be messaging adjacent; campfire actions will be more traditional mafia night actions, though there may be a few exceptions.
• Players cannot take the same action twice during a round (e.g. if a player has an exploration action worth 1 point, it may use it on three separate rounds, but not three times in the same round).
• Players may take multiple different actions during a given round if they have the points to do so.
• Each Night will have multiple exploration rounds, followed by one campfire round. Action points will be refilled at the start of the night. The rounds will proceed as follows:
• N1: 4x exploration rounds. 1x campfire round
• N2+: Action points refilled, 2x exploration rounds. 1x campfire round
Exploration rounds

• Players will be allowed to send messages to other players each round as long as they have the words to do so. Messages may only be sent to players, not roles.
• Not all players have the same number of words or may be limited in the number of messages that they can send/receive.
• Leftover words will NOT be carried over to future rounds
• Exploration actions will trigger at the end of the round, after messages are sent, but before they are received.
• Messages will always be signed, either with your player name or your role name, your choice.
• All player and role names count as one word regardless of their actual length.
• Players are generally not allowed to portmanteau words together to shorter their wordcount. E.g. A message reading “KillLaserGuyHeIsScum” is not acceptable. Players are expected to make a good faith effort to keep their wordcounts and not abuse the messaging rules and obvious attempts to circumvent these is not permitted. If you aren’t sure what is acceptable, please ask.
• Hyphenated words count as a single word.
• Players exceeding their wordcount will have their messages truncated.
• Messages may only be in text. Simple embellishments like bold or italics may be added for emphasis. Images, emojis, sound recordings, etc. are not permitted.
Campfire Rounds

• Campfire actions can be taken during this round. These will generally be processed according to Natural Action Resolution, or as close as possible.
• Players are not allowed to send or receive messages during campfire round.
• Every player will have access to a killing action of some sort. The exact mechanics of this kill will vary from player to player.

Messaging Rights:
You have 100 words per exploration round. You may send as many messages as you want per round as long as you don’t exceed this limit.
Exploration Actions:
Return to sender (1 action point): Target a player of your choice. Any messages sent by that player during this exploration phase will not be delivered and will be returned to them unopened.
Campfire Actions:
One-shot Kill (3 action points): Target a player of your choice. If nothing prevents you from doing so, that player will be killed and eliminated from the game. Flavour text for your kill will be your target was stabbed by a pitchfork.
You are aligned with Town. You win when all threats to Town are eliminated.
