actually I looked it up and apparently that's Sindarin, and in Quenya it would be meldo

"Mellon" is the elvish word for "friend", from Lord of the Rings. It's a word that actually makes an appearance in the main story, since at one point the main characters encounter a gate locked with a password that turns out to be "mellon" (and therefore is more likely that people will know it who don't otherwise speak elvish).

There are actually two major elvish languages in Lord of the Rings, one of which is called Sindarin and the other of which is called Quenya (and I think also some other less-important ones).

I was trying to make a pun on quendas and Quenya, but the joke I thought of didn't quite work, since it turns out "mellon" is from Sindarin rather than Quenya.
