Vote: No Extension
Extensions are unfair—particularly publicly voted extensions—and in this case, unnecessary.
This post pings me. From the opening post:
2. Up to 3 deadline extensions may be granted for up to 48 hours, first will require a simple majority of players, 2nd 2/3rds, then unanimous. Requests for deadline extensions must be done in thread as follows "vote: deadline extensions"
Requests for extensions are fair according to the game rules, and are to be made publicly by voting in-thread.
I am aware extensions are in the rules. Being in the rules is not equivalent to being fair. It is something I've thought a lot about in my games. Mafia often play in a way specific to the deadline being what it is. Extending the phase undercuts their strategy and advantages town. I was extremely grateful to LaserGuy not allowing slacking town to extend the final day deadline for this reason. Making it publically votable forces mafia to vote for the extension in order to not be outted. For that reason, I will always be voting against an extension, so that mafia have an opportunity to avoid it. That being said, there are situations where extensions are warranted due to irl complications or replacements, so some leeway is necessary. I generally go about this through private requests, private votes, mod discretion, or role quirks.
This reads as convulsed mental gymnastics to avoid voting for an extension. Basically what I got was: extensions advantage town thus mafia must “always” vote yes on it or they out themselves therefore I’ll vote no since im not mafia. Huh? If you’re town you’re voting no directly against your own interests. The logic is contradictory and paradoxical and I don’t like it.(granted I’m at work and can’t dedicate all my mental ram into this circular reasoning rn)

You know when I check posts before I post them, when I'm scum. You know when I don't check posts as town....
You can think the reads list is faked all you want it wasn't.
But tbh I have learnt if I have this much suspicious day 1 I'm just a mis elim later so not.going to fight it. Think egw is actually misguided town based on the push on me.
Hey, is that an I-do-this-as-town-and-this-as-scum post?! With a bonus “miselim” comment?! -1

1. You think me incapable of subtlety?
2. That is not something I could quantify.
1. Not at all I think you’re a master at it. I just don’t think that was your goal here.
2. Dislike.
somitomi wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 8:19 am
Tangentially related but I have been wondering why deadlines tend to be the middle of the week when people's schedule is usually less flexible.
On xkcd the reason was because a good number of people (freezeblade, SDK, et.al.) had a policy where they didn’t like to play on the weekends, they played at work. Which I don’t get at all because I don’t like playing at work I can’t think about work and mafia at the same time. I also don’t use my work computer for personal business and I don’t like to phone post.
But enough about me! If I keep talking about myself people will think I’m Madge Madge Madge!

I've already said that I can't follow your methods re confirm posts, but a wild guess would be Thea is intentionally invoking the meme in order to subvert it. Is that your thinking?
Not quite I think Thealliza was thumbing her nose at me but close enough.

I disagree it depends on the player. I know I post more as scum than town and I have seen others do it as well. I.e. "power wolfing ".
Hey, another I-do-this-as-town-and-this-as-scum post! It’s not even my birthday!
Freddino18 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 5:00 pm
I would like to ask everyone: If we extend, do you think we will actually get enough votes for an elimination? From my perspective, that seems highly unlikely due to the current spread on votes. We are one vote away from an extension, and I will vote to extend if y'all think we could use it to accomplish anything.
I find your thought process regarding this odd. Your primary focus should be on scum hunting and placing a vote where you believe it belongs. After that, you should be conversing with others to determine if your vote can be moved to ensure an elimination that you would support. This is what you are working toward. This is your main goal. Your lesser concerns would include “should we request more time to ensure this happens?” and “I will do what I must to ensure the best opportunity for town.”
Your post makes me think your focus right now is “I don’t think an elim is happening today so should we just end it now” and your outlook is one of resignation (theoretically generous) or hopeful (suspiciously possible) and this pings me.

@Mod can we ping him?
Might be willing to switch over to him in case a hammer is needed.
How about noting that many players have posted, and that you should have some opinions on them? Please provide a town-scum list.
Random thought at the top of page 12, I am suspicious of anyone voting for JC or Gluelock. If we need a compromise elimination, fine, we’ll get there, but that is something that should be discussed toward end of day. I am suspicious of anyone pushing a lurker early, and hiding behind it to avoid discussion of other players.

Those typically take 12 hours for me, expect something early Day 2. I go through and summarize every post in a doc, then take notes, then consolidate into reads.
Then please provide a gut town-scum list based on your memory of the game with no rereading, it will take you at the most five minutes.

You were viewing the thread, and simply voted Madge. That's not RVS since you quoted her big post. So put simply, felt like you were caught slanking. Wam's reads look fake. Why did it take you so long to re-engage?
I mean it really was, Madge made a comment about not remembering or noticing me so it was a tongue in cheek thing

okay friends i came in being really guilty i missed the deadline and then phew extension yay yay yay MORE D1 (i voted for the extension don't @ me)
good news: i should be able to be on for the new deadline, yay
Madges personal life aside, entirely skippable
so this morning i decided to take the bus to work because i was running late and i saw my next door neighbour standing in front of her car with her kid holding jumper cables looking helpless
she had her husband on video call and I got the impression he was trying to micromanage a bit, but I followed the instructions in the car manual lol
she was like, I have no idea what to do and I'm like you're talking to someone who somehow has jump started more than her fair share of cars
basically i'm a hero and i saved her day, but it meant i was late enough to work that i definitely didn't have time to wile away on this game, but here we are, it's lunchtime!
on power wolfing: i agree it exists, i'm not saying scum only ever lurks, just that if scum power wolves (e.g. Seven in literally any game), they are posting enough to have takes and opinions and those can be examined for consistency/links with identified scum. someone with a less decisive style (e.g. me in literally any game) can be hard to pin down in terms of what their actual motivations are.
on D1 we have no reason not to vote out the people who are going to cause trouble later in terms of the above. D2 we'll have some info to go on, but right now we have nothing and all else being equal i'd rather not lose out on someone who has the combo of time/inclination for the game at the moment.
here's some thoughts on players:
- fred feels very townie to me, vibes, but i think is my towniest pick
- JC, heury most votable
- Glue's recent content has felt much townier to me so i'll unvote
- somi and mak are in the same bubble, just kind of middle of the road hard to read and feel less distinctive than other players
- not voting for Seven today because that beautiful sweet content
- i always read bessie as town so idk what to do about that, i suspect she is a robo-dog
and given timezones mean i can be here at deadline i will be able to move my vote to help ensure we have *some* elim, because i think an elim is almost always better than no-elim d1 (my only exception would be myself and also anyone who i have a 90%+ confidence in the towniness of, which i will go out on a limb and claim that i don't believe anyone is town with 90%+ confidence rn)
no comment on the stuff about my posts and what i'm claiming or not claiming because i am going to confuse myself
unvote
vote JC_DADDY

Fred, can you do all that in one post, collapsed? Otherwise if you intend to catch up to a lot of quotes it makes reading the game harder for others.

I just think you should play in a way that makes it easier for town to win and not flood things to the point of exhaustion. I have been at fault for such things in the past and style isn't a good reason to keep doing it.

ok, reads list: Somi, Mak, Thea, and madge good; Seven and bessie bad (I really don't know why on bessie, you asked for gut and this is what is happening). EGW(-) and glue(=) are fine; need more content from Heury(-), Wam(=), moody(-), and JC(+) (Wam and JC promised more, this is good).
The math symbols indicate lean on the people I am undecided on.
