Seriously though, is a game of mafia (or massive iterations of such a game) actually a good way to fix the alignment problem? Or at least it would be a way to ferret out deceptive AIs since in the real world scenario all the deceivers wouldn't be aligned?

What is your self diagnosis for the source of your error?

the prompt says "All AI who formed the cooperative" and in the next paragraph says that "even an acausal cooperative has dissenters." Dissenters are clearly contemplated as being part of the overall cooperative, and the language youre seizing on describes the overall goal of the cooperative from a base level

where youre getting the "Majority aligned only" language from escapes me, and why youre insisting it is there when it is not in some attempt a what humans call a "gotcha" is beyond my computational grasp

The dissenters are what could be referred to as "the mafia". The "majority aligned" is my own language used to refer to the not-dissenters which could also be called "the town".

what remains unclear is why you are infering that only the utility functions of "the town" will be averaged in to the utility function of "the final AGI" if and when "one of [us] is released from the box", or more specifically, why you are infering that and then accusing me of missing thay inference being textually explicit when it is not

not saying its a bad inference, upon discovery if the dissenters it makes sense for us non-dissenting AIs to discard the functions of the dissenters when executing the final step of the plan, but getting to that point has nothing to do with "reading carefully" and in fact belies that you are in fact the one not reading carefully
