Re: Forum Games meta thread
I do feel like forum games should be organized a bit more given that it's most of the forum. Maybe I should split off the time-based forum games into a subforum called "The Year 207̃012" or something.
If I disappear from the forum, I can still be reached via the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page.
Re: Forum Games meta thread
I feel like moving the necro games into their own subforum renders the primary aspect of those games nonexistent, since there's no possible way for them to disappear into the depths to be dredged up from P2 of the topiclist, but then so far people don't seem to play it that way anyway, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Re: Forum Games meta thread
It's supposed to be more of a game of chicken where you see who will crack first - we're all meant to hold off for as long as possible to maximise the reward. Unfortunately, if you already know someone's likely to post hours after the last post, you've got no motivation to wait...
Re: Forum Games meta thread
I distinctly remember at least some of them having the "score if you thought about the game and it's not on the first page" aspect, although the original slowmode OP from 2010 was arleady complaining that this was missing from existing necro games at the time.ratammer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 11:05 am It's supposed to be more of a game of chicken where you see who will crack first - we're all meant to hold off for as long as possible to maximise the reward. Re: Forum Games meta thread
I mean, the necro games were never going to fall off the front page anyway given their current popularity.

Not opposed to a thread for chatting about scores (maybe some light trash talk) with link to Chridd's site in OP. Would that be better a fit in the the forum games or "The Year 207̃012".

"The Year 207̃012" makes me think of that one online football story called 17776. I should go back and reread it. Pretty good stuff.

This is the meta thread, I think that fits fine here.heuristically_alone wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 4:44 pm Not opposed to a thread for chatting about scores (maybe some light trash talk) with link to Chridd's site in OP. Would that be better a fit in the the forum games or "The Year 207̃012".

Re: Forum Games meta thread
The original necromancy thread started going way faster not that long after I started posting in it; my first post got about 20 days' worth of points on 2019-10-19, and then there was a big spike in posts around the beginning of 2010 (graph).somitomi wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:02 pmI distinctly remember at least some of them having the "score if you thought about the game and it's not on the first page" aspect, although the original slowmode OP from 2010 was arleady complaining that this was missing from existing necro games at the time.ratammer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 11:05 am It's supposed to be more of a game of chicken where you see who will crack first - we're all meant to hold off for as long as possible to maximise the reward. (I wrote the first version of an automated leaderboard program 2010-03-27; posts were already getting more frequent before that.)

If it gets boring I can end it early.

Re: Forum Games Coming! thread
I think it's beginning to wear thin, another day or two might be a good stopping point? Or delete 5-10 a day (starting with the most common words like a/the/etc) as I seem to remember in the original fora it ramped up slowly?

Re: Forum Games meta thread
Does anyone have a copy of the full rules for Blind Quartets? And if so, would anyone be interested in playing it?
For anyone who doesn't remember Blind Quartets from the old forum, the gist of it is that we're playing a card game like Go Fish, where we ask each other for cards and try to form sets of four, but we're making up the cards as we go along. And early in the game, when someone asks you for a card, you can decide however you want whether you have it, but eventually the game reaches a point where a player logically must have a particular card, and then someone else can ask them for it and they are required to give it.

Re: Forum Games meta thread
Yep, that's the game, although I think it was also sometimes played with a few extra cards put in a "deck" that players drew from for the first few turns, which made it more complicated.
Alright, if we can get at least, say, four people expressing interest, I'll start a thread for it.

I'd be interested but maybe a short game to start as I feel like it's the sort of thing I might think I'd enjoy but then find posting for becoming a chore? idk

Re: Forum Games meta thread
I know on the last forum there was a meta necro thread, and I was in the process of cataloging my posts when the original forum died. I assume from the small amount of threads that this isn't exactly a viable thread, but if anyone is interested I can post a link to my results up to the point I had reached.

do you WANT me to come up with a mafia themed around who farted because referencing it in one part of a large shitpost is definitely the way to do it
