I think you want to add a "pi" to that, unless you're different colours in different places. (Colours were a specific example I saw about the difference.)

In your sentence, "loje" and "laso" are both modifying "soweli", so you have an animal that is both red and blue, e.g. because it's stripey. You want "laso" to modify "loje" to make a "blue-ish red" (i.e. purple), so you need to group them together with "pi". "soweli pi loje laso" is a purple animal.

But I'm also an animal that is both red(-ish) (because purple is a red-ish color) and blue(-ish) (because purple is a blue-ish color).

That is true, but like I said, the colour thing was specifically shown as an illustration of when to use or not use "pi". I feel like you would be misunderstood if you tried it your way amongst toki pona speakers.
