Halloween 2024: The Time Travellers' Party [D3]

Post by madge »

RULES

Mods: Madge, Sabrar
Size: 12
Speed: In general: Day Phase lasts 5 days. Night Phase 48 hours. Will vary depending on Mod availability
Bastardry: There is no bastardry in this game!

Setup Notes:
• You may not self-target unless it is explicitly allowed in your role PM
• The mods will not announce MeLo/ELo or otherwise let players know that they are close to winning/losing
• Note that, as in previous years, our flips will not include full role PMs, just the rolename. As usual with Halloween games, standard rolenames are used for convenience, however exact details of the roles might differ from what players could have encountered in the past.
• Night action resolution will, in general, follow Natural Action Resolution, however exact role interactions and resolution order might differ from what players have encountered in the past

Bastardry:
This setup is Non-Bastard. Per Mafiascum's definition of a 'bastard game', this setup is guaranteed free from:
• Cults, secret wincons, other mid-game alignment changes
• Moderator lies that can't be reasonably anticipated
• Post restrictions
• Spoiler reading or listening roles

Posting rules:
1. No posting in the game thread unless you are playing in it.
2. No talking about this game except in the game thread or in an appropriately titled spoiler in the discussion thread
3. No player may read discussion spoilers about this game until they are informed by the mods that they are dead and free to read spoilers.
4. No editing your posts. For any reason. At any time.
5. Do not lurk! One post per real-life day is the recommended minimum. Consideration will be given for weekends.
6. Players lurking excessively will be replaced or, if replacement is not possible, modkilled. See above.
7. Any player who is modkilled for rule violations (not lurking) will automatically lose.
8. You may post in thread during the day phase but not the night phase. It is night once a mod posts a day-end post (this will not be before the official deadline, but knowing Madge could be quite a bit after it), or a hammer vote is cast, in which case it is automatically night, whether or not a mod has made a day-end post. Note that this means you may not post content after a hammer vote.
9. You may not play to lose, or act in a way that is clearly against your win condition.
10. You may not use encryption systems in order to communicate privately or circumvent these rules.
11. This is a game; it’s meant to be fun. Personal attacks or other offensive behaviour towards other players will not be tolerated.
12. (Explicitly added D2) No quoting your role PMs, in whole or in part, or otherwise meta-gaming (e.g. sharing the timestamp on PMs). Obviously, if your role is "vanilla town", claiming "I'm vanilla town" isn't quoting from your role PM even though the phrase "vanilla town" appears there. Likewise, claiming your rolename is fine. This rule is against quoting full powers, quoting full flavour, etc.
13. (Added D2) All communications with the mod (replacement requests, questions, etc) must be submitted via PM only. You may not reference to having made any requests of the mods until after you've received a response, or if it has been an unreasonable amount of time (e.g. "I asked Madge three days ago so at this point I doubt I'll have info by EoD"). Note this means that players can lie about having asked questions.
14. (Added D2) The only exception to the above rule is communication related to the votals (requesting, pointing out errors, etc) may be posted in thread.

Deadlines:
1. In general, days will last for 5 days. Nights will last for 2 days.
2. Adjustments will be made to accommodate holidays, or for other reasons if the mod deems it necessary.
3. In-thread deadline announcements from the mod override these rules.
4. Requests for extensions will be considered in exceptional circumstances only.
5. Deadlines are 'soft', meaning that posting and voting may continue after the deadline until the mod calls night.
6. Remember there is no talking after a hammer vote is cast.

Voting rules:
1. Votes and questions for the mod must be posted in bold and on a new line, like this:

Vote: Madge

You do NOT have to unvote to change votes, but it makes things easier and will be very much appreciated if you do. You can unvote in bold and on a new line, like this:

Unvote (Madge)
Vote: Sabrar

2. When someone gains a majority of the votes, they are automatically voted out and it becomes night, as above. Posting content after the hammer vote is not allowed, even if the hammer vote was accidental.
3. If the deadline is reached and no player has been hammered, then the person with the most votes when the mod calls night will be voted out.
4. If two players are tied for the most votes, nobody will be voted out.
5. You can vote not to execute anyone by casting a vote for “No Execution”. “No Execution” will be treated exactly the same as any other player for determining votal results.

Death rules:
1. You’re alive until you are hammered, or a mod declares that you're dead, by PM or in thread.
2. Once you die, you may no longer post content in this thread. You may post death flavour or a ‘Bah! You killed me,’ post that reveals no information.

Sample Town Role PM:
(note: Because I was in a hurry I got chatGPT to do some of the more mind-numbing formatting (adding the lists in BBCode/etc), so despite my best efforts when proofreading there may be slight inconsistencies - note how in the role PM below the "active abilities" header is not bold but the "passive abilities" header is bold. You're not meant to be describing your role PMs in such detail anyway so it shouldn't matter. If you are unsure about your role PM, you are encouraged to ask for confirmation via PM)

Here's some helpful advice from Seven about how we play on our forum:
Seven wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 8:07 am For those who haven't played here before or haven't played in a while, keep in mind that players and non-players, both alive and dead may post commentary about the game (under spoiler tags) at any time in the Gojoe Memorial Thread here. While alive, do not click or read other users' spoilered posts about this game in the Gojoe thread.

It's also encouraged that you avoid using the search function as spoilered posts aren't spoiled in search. Instead, you can ISO users by using the sort by author button at the bottom of this thread.

[above image is a real photograph]

Stephen Hawking waited in a function room at Caius, and couldn’t help but feel a little bit silly, surrounded as he was by plates of snacks, balloons, and sitting beneath a banner that loudly proclaimed "WELCOME TIME TRAVELLERS."

It was a simple affair, but it had to be, for the more people who were aware of the conspiracy, the more people would be able to leak the time and place before the party took place.

And, of course, he wanted to be sure anyone who attended was really a time traveller.

He always suspected he’d be the only one there, but he couldn’t help but hold out hope. He was, if nothing else, a famous physicist. The most famous of his generation. No Nobel prize—not yet, at least, maybe a time traveller would come with good news for him?—but famous nonetheless.

He was hoping in the future he’d be more famous than even sitting at the apex of theoretical physics could make him. His plan was that if nobody showed up, he’d tell the media it was a stunt, a way to prove time travel was impossible.

But that was a lie. His latest forays into the secrets of the universe led him to suspect more and more strongly that it might actually be possible to go back in time. So, he thought, it was quite possible that people might attend his time traveller’s party.

And if they did, well… he planned to use his incredible intellect and his powers of influence to dupe the fools who’d come to such an obvious honeypot.

And those fools—if they indeed existed—would ensure that Stephen Hawking became the universe’s ageless God-Emperor.

Earlier… and later… and meanwhile…

The Servants of the Hawk King gathered around their ageless God-Emperor.

𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕜𝕟𝕠𝕨 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕞𝕦𝕤𝕥 𝕕𝕠, 𝕞𝕪 𝕝𝕠𝕪𝕒𝕝 𝕤𝕦𝕓𝕛𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕤” came the inhuman, stilted robotic words.

The coterie of henchpeople nodded, and activated their time travel devices. They would ensure the invitations to the time travellers party would get into the right hands. For the Hawk King knew how to combine the powers of a small number of items with special quantum foam properties, and with those he could control the fabric of space-time itself.

The henchmen rushed to all corners of the time stream to ensure that the Hawk King’s will be done, lest the world go into disarray.

Earlier… and later… and meanwhile…

The Chrono Gardeners sit outside, in tranquil forest surroundings. A natural pond glows red:

ᵀʰᵉʳᵉ ʰᵃᵛᵉ ᵇᵉᵉⁿ ᵘⁿᵃᵘᵗʰᵒʳⁱˢᵉᵈ ᶜʰᵃⁿᵍᵉˢ ᵗᵒ ᵗʰᵉ ᵗⁱᵐᵉ ˢᵗʳᵉᵃᵐ

One of the Gardeners stands up, reaching for a naturalistic-looking piece of technology attached to their wrist.

“The followers of the Hawk King are striking again!” they declared. “Let’s get to our time stations, to ensure that nobody goes to 52° 12' 21" N, 0° 7' 4.7" E 12:00 UT, 28 June, 2009!

The time coordinates were spoken in an abbreviated form that evoked birdsong more than anything else.

The Chrono Gardeners went off, to search for the damage that was going to happen to the time stream, to divert it, lest their paradisiacal future be thrown into jeopardy…

I've just added the sample role PM to the OP. Note that the role PMs are a bit inconsistent with each other in terms of formatting as I used chatGPT to add the markdown because I was in a hurry last night. However the wincon should be identical for all Town-aligned players. Please PM me ASAP if you are town and your wincon is different from the OP.

Oh right, I forgot to make a deadline timer. Here it is: https://www.tickcounter.com/countdown/6 ... -countdown

Deadline for D1 will be 4 PM China time, 3 AM US eastern, 8 AM UTC, all on the 5th of November. Let me know if that's a problem.

This clarification also heavily implies multiball , right ? Because it basically says that there is a possibility that the game can go on even if all town is eliminated

I didn't know Santy was in! I was looking forward to bessie's confirmation post-analysis; I had something fun lined up. I'm loving Thea's self-imposed movie quote restriction. I took the flavor to mean that town are the Hawk King's servants before they were his servants, and scum are the utopian rebels.

And what do you think about the town win condition then?

Is that standard wording for games here?
