2994: "Númenor Margaritaville"

Image
Title text: I see white shores, and beyond it, a far green country under a tequila sunrise.

Am I the only one for whom this comic makes me worry a little bit about Randall?

When I first saw this comic, it misstated the name of the last king of Númenor as Tar-Pharazôn, instead of Ar-Pharazôn. Randall must've been assailed by a horde of Tolkien nerds until he corrected it.

(It's an understandable mistake, because the Elvish versions of the Númenorean kings' names were, in fact, prefixed with Tar-; but Pharazôn was the Númenorean version of his name, and those were prefixed with Ar-. His Elvish name--hang on while I grab my copy of the Silmarillion--was Tar-Calion.)

According to explainxkcd, the original version of the image also had Numenor instead of Númenor.

I think explainxkcd's explanation for the first version was Cueball trolling the elf.
