Spoiler (Show/Hide)
There could be no doubt now. Only as many people as possible had a chance of saving the world. Jormundall considered that a challenge - just finding the perfect warrior would have been much easier than finding and training one thousand willing participants. "Like herding cats" he grumbled.

Spoiler (Show/Hide)
There was no doubt possible. Saving the world was a matter of seconds now. Jourmundall did not hesitate. "Like herding a flock of cats", he grumbled.

I suck at my own game.

That was reconstructive memory at work. I couldn't remember the actual attribute, but substituted a different attribute that I associate with pirates (because of Captain Hook and the likes).

Edit: commentary on what I just typed...

In that last part, I half-remembered something from the last sentence rather than this one.

I'm seeing a pattern where long texts degrade very quickly to shorter texts and then gradually stabilize, until they are short enough that somebody can faithfully reproduce them. Should we try to invent some way to ensure that the length of the text stays at a sweet spot, where we don't forget half of the text right away but some drifting still occurs?

The version of this thread on the old forum had a rule where, if your text was under a certain length, you had to add words to it (in any positions) until it was above that length again.

Looks like I have a perfect reproduction, but I'll wait on any rule revisions before starting a new run.

Yes I remember that rule. Do you think it worked well?

Something like this, then? To be inserted after rule 3:

If you produced less than 20 words, take some creative liberty to bring the total number of words back between 20 and 24.

The "start a new text if you go under 10 words" in rule 3 would disappear under this modification.

"Stop!" she shouted as she burst into the room. "You can't operate on that dog - he's an alien!" Then she paused in fear as she took in the appearance of the veterinary surgeons, who clicked their mandibles derisively and rolled their eyestalks.
