What kind of balls? Basketballs? Baseballs? Soccer balls? American footballs? None of those are generally hairy, though. Did you shed on your sports equipment?

when i had pet rats i once gave them macadamia nuts, in the shell. they got into them eventually! i guess those are rat balls?

(I don't know that I've ever seen macadamia nuts in their shells. The ones I've had were all shellless.)
