It was the (semi) lawless area of the original forums. You had to specifically opt-in/request to join. But basically outside of legal concerns there were no rules in FaiD and mods didn't mod anything.

Sort of had its own culture in a similar way to how the Time thread had its own culture.

Okay, I think that's enough support. Before I go and set up the forum, though, can someone give me a refresher on how FaiD worked? I remember there being a bit more to it than just "lawless", but I don't quite remember what.

It wasn't visible to everywhere. You had to have permissions to view and post in it. But other than that, it basically was just random discussion threads that were slightly less moderated. My favorite thread was where we spectated and discussed other people's arguments/disagreements that occured within the forum.

Hmm, it looks like non-logged-in users (and people who aren't in the group) can see posts in there, which isn't how it worked in the old forum (and I'm sure people would prefer if it worked how it did).

I don't think it was visible at all. archive.org confirms it wasn't visible to non-logged-in users - no way to prove it for users not in the group, but I certainly don't remember being able to see it (because I didn't even know it existed until I'd been on the forum for several years).
